Question by : Has anyone else “hunted” armadillos with baseball bats?
I grew up in Cocoa Beach and later Titusville (Fl.) and when I was in HS me and my buds (not sure who thought of it, I know it wasn’t me) used to pile in a car and head out to the deserted beach road in Titusville (Merritt Island National Seashore) at night and when we’d see an armadillo in the road who was briefly stunned by our headlights we’d slam on the brakes and all pile out with baseball bats and give chase…the idea was to get a hit…which was rare but the swiftest of us did occasionally get a hit…all I remember was when you would hit one they would jump about 3 feet off the ground and when they landed they would be gone in a flash into the brush….needless to say this practice was typically done in conjunction with either beer or other mind altering substances…lol
It was just typical teen boy antics…I turned out fine…a former U.S. Marine and now degreed Engineer
Anyone who wasn’t in the Corps, keep your comments about them to yourselves…you have no idea what you are talking about.

In Hearts Wake: www.facebook.com/inheartswake – Lyrics Below Directed and Edited by: Juliet Carrington ‘The Night Is For Hunting’ by In Hearts Wake – Featuring guest vocals from ‘Dan Brown’ (Confession). Taken off In Hearts Wake’s ‘SPLIT CD’ 2010: www.inheartswake.bigcartel.com LYRICS: I am the night sky hunting you down, I am invisible, out of sight, like truth to the world. I am the starless emptiness you feel. You are the epitome of “vacuous.” Fucking suffocate. And as the streetlights start to fade away, You feel the sudden change. I know I’m better off without you in my way. My hands around your neck, taking away your breath, The air is leaving you but you don’t feel a thing. I am here. I am the starless emptiness you feel. You’re the epitome of “vacuous suffocation” And as the streetlights start to fade away, You feel the sudden change. I know I’m better off without you in my way. My hands around your neck, taking away your breath, The air is leaving you but you don’t feel a thing. I cannot be heard. I can’t be felt. I exist in your surroundings so therefore I am here. Fucking suffocate. I cannot be heard. I can’t be felt. I exist in your surroundings so therefore I am here. I am here. With weapons being words, I’ll surround you all. I am the night sky hunting you down. I am invisible, out of sight, like truth to the world. I am the starless emptiness you feel. Starless epitome, so fucking suffocate. We’re waiting for the end.

  4. That IS pretty cruel. My old American Bulldog killed one in a matter of seconds one night. I heard it make a high pitch squeal, and it was over. Poor little armored ground pig didn’t have a chance.

  6. No, but I used to hunt punks. I would drive around at night and look for punks that were terrorizing animals. When I would find them I would run their cars into the ditch.

  10. If the animal was making itself a nuisance around your property, or gave you another good reason to kill it, kill it. But running around beating the wildlife just to beat the wildlife is idiotic and cruel.

While we have all done stupid things in our lives, what’s just as stupid is to yuck it up in front of everyone about the stupid things you’ve done that you should be ashamed of.

  14. That was a serious lack in judgement on your part, that is cruel and inhumane.

  16. any high school aged kid that cant catch an armadillo needs to lay off the twinkies. they arent that fast. they also wont sprint away to protect themselves because they know they arent that fast. they will ball up.

so you used to get drunk and stoned, drive around with baseball bats and beat defenseless animals? i was really disappointed to see that you said former U.S. marine. thats pretty embarassing for the corp. usually marines are in much higher moral standing.
