Do you allow your (hunting) pointing dog to chase birds in the backyard?
Question by Leigh: Do you allow your (hunting) pointing dog to chase birds in the backyard?
A coworker said that I would ruin my pointing dog by letting him run after birds in the backyard (he seems to like to “hone his stalking skills” back there!). He’s trained (and very well) and has never lost it in the field-he does what he’s supposed to when he’s working, and he knows the difference between a hunting trip and fun time in the backyard.
I know there are also people who think that their hunting dogs should never be allowed to play, shouldn’t get extra attention, shouldn’t be allowed indoors, etc. because they feel it “ruins” a dog.
I can honestly say that the best hunters I have seen have been the ones with the best relationships with their owners-the ones that live inside, the ones that get plenty of attention and play, the ones that seem to have a well-rounded life. My own upland dog (along with my versatile retreivers) have all been indoors, been pretty spoiled, and been great in the field and water. I’ve heard a lot of ridiculous theories, though, about how a hunting dog “should” live.
What crazy theories have you heard? What do you do with your own dogs? I’ve no intention of stopping what’s working at my house, but I wonder how many people buy into these stupid notions.

My American Pit Bull Terrier isn’t used for hunting but because of her high prey drive I let her get her energy out by chasing, birds, squirrels, and insects in the yard.
People who think working dogs shouldn’t be allowed to be “dogs” are mindless idiots, if anything working dogs receive more attention then the average dog anyway, they are constantly with their masters so they receive tons of attention and the dogs are doing what they do best and what they are bred to do. To me dogs don’t need to be spoiled, they need a job to do, dogs that are worked live longer, happier lives, because that is what their bodies are built for and that is what they enjoy doing.

is the MP001 air soft sniper rifle ok enough for a backyard air soft game?
i heard this gun is very powerful but im worried its too powerful. i have 2 guns that fire about 300-325 fps with .12 bbs and that works fine with everyone. i want a sniper that can shoot far enough to be out of range of the automatic guns ( just like a sniper is supposed to do). this gun firs at 400fps, and idk whether to use .12 or .20 and not really cause any problems. and i don’t want one of my douche bag friends firring the gun at 5 feet and hurting some one. i need advice
