My “Ideal” USMC Career?

Question by : My “Ideal” USMC Career?
I would love to enlist with the UZ Recon contract and become a 0321 Recon Man after Boot Camp and SOI. I would then like to apply for MARSOC. I would be very content with that, but I would also like to try and get selected into Scout/Sniper School.

Now lets say I excel in everything physical and get expert marksmanship, what do you think my chances of getting into MARSOC and/or Sniper School?

I’m asking because not much is guaranteed in the Marine Corps and I would just like to know the chances from a “numbers game” standpoint.

Thanks in advance.

P.S.
Please don’t tell me about how hard the training is or anything like that, if I wanted to know that I would have asked.

The chances will have increased, because both of those positions require much stamina and durability.

Any help with choosing a career and path?

Well, I am 18 right now, and done with Highschool. In highschool I really only liked taking classes that dealt with computers. I liked taking classes from repairing of computers to writing papers and then typing them on computers.

In my free time though, I like working on small projects, being outside, hiking/camping, hunting, horticulture, playing video games on the computer, reading, and writing.

I don’t like the idea of dealing with peoples’ problems, like people in customer service, so anything dealing with that just don’t mention it. I also am not a very people person, but I would like to work in a small workplace of mixed genders.

I am working right now to pay my way through college, and I don’t want to waste any of my hard earned cash, so any help deciding on a career would be wonderful. Also if it makes any difference I am male as well.

Thanks for reading, and hopefully replying.

Fiance is not being supportive at ALL for my potential career change to teaching, red flag or legit concern?

Long story short, the economy is terrible. We all know that. The business I am in, which I will leave out because my fiance frequents yahoo answers, is not “economy” friendly. The job I have is something that could be cut out at anytime…and I would be on the streets. That’s not to say my job won’t transfer somewhere to another field, but still…it’s not what I would have studied to be.

Well I told my fiance a week ago that I was thinking of going back to school to be a teacher. She gave me a disgusted look and said “why?’ I said because I think I’m going to be a teacher. Granted, she is a teacher right now…keep that in mind.

So she goes ok why? You hated school when you were in it, you never did your homework, and you got by based on your intelligence, why would you want to teach? I said well because I’ve always been good in ____insert subject here, and I think I could really help out. Plus, I love the subject. Also, I could coach golf and soccer (played both sports in high school). She’s like teaching is different than coaching. I go I know, I would be going there for teaching..coaching 2nd. Well, she said she doesn’t think it’s a good idea, and us both making $30k/year for the next 3 years would delay or house buying plans (I make 68k right now). I said honey listen, I might make 68k right now, but if I get laid off, I’ll be making 0…and job hunting.

Is this a red flag (in regards to marriage)? I mean, I want to spend the rest of my life with her, but were responses completely unnecessary and out of line? Granted, my field is in jeopardy with the economy, but I would make MUCH more doing this than teaching.

What are your opinions? I can’t fall asleep with all of this on my mind.
Nora – I feel sorry for your husband, as that’s the exact type of answer that would make me not want to marry my fiance.

I’m interested as to how I’m selfish. Why should I suffer at my job when I don’t like it…and I got to bed everynight worrying if I’m going to get my pink slip the next morning simply because it’s a numbers game?

I think if anything, me looking to get a job with stability, a pension, and LESS money short term, more long term…I’m doing what’s best for our future family. It’s too bad that women such as yourself care only about money.

Other than quitting your current position, calling in sick and/or using vacation or personal days to job hunt/interview, what are some ethical and doable ways to look for a new job or career?
I’ve found a number of positions for which I am qualified. I have my bachelor’s degree from a top-tier school, so finding the job isn’t really the issue. It’s finding the company that will interview or consider me with the crazy schedule I have currently.

K’s playoff MVP calls it a career
Matt Syroczynski has filled enough nets with pucks. Last seen riddling Port Huron and Flint with 11 goals in 12 playoff games, the IHL playoff MVP is hanging up his sniper’s rifle.

I am a recent computer engineering grad with no experience. I need good career advice?

I recently graduated from the University of Texas with an undergrad degree in Electrical/Computer engineering, I am unemployed and I need good advice. I have very low self-esteem when it comes to my career search, because I am not an attractive employee on paper.

My technical areas are in embedded systems and computer design. I am a fairly good programmer. I have a 3.1876 GPA (sadly, the last few semesters took a toll on my GPA), I have no job experience, and I have no accomplishments/awards. The summer after my Freshman year I did work in an ice-cream restaurant, but that is all. I was not in any school organizations, and I did no volunteer work, internship or research projects. I have two class projects: for my senior design project I built an advanced laser tag system (which we were unable to finish because of many problems, but was a good learning experience), and in one of my classes I built a robot for a volleyball competition (which we got fourth place). I don’t have any contacts or mentors – I am definitely not close to any of my professors. I do have at least two family members who could help, but I am not close to them, and I am also afraid that they will look down on me (haven’t been in contact, even though they expect me to). I probably also have fellow grads that I can talk to, but I am embarrassed to tell them about my situation as well, and I am not very close to them either for mostly that reason. I am only beginning with my job hunt because I have been so scared.

I am open to anything – research, grad school (I haven’t taken the GRE, and I have little money), volunteer work. I know that an entry-level job will not be great, but more than anything I want a job with potential to advance, and so I am very hesitant about which jobs I apply for (although at this point, realistically, I probably need to apply for any job I can get). I enjoy my free time, and I am fine to earn a moderate income (as long as it isn’t poverty). I don’t like a stressful work environment. I am willing to work anywhere in the US, but preferably in Texas or close to Texas for convenience – I am also fine to travel if necessary.

I really enjoy philosophy, reading and writing (my secret dream is to someday write a book, even if it is self-published and only for my close friends) more than anything (more than engineering, which is only because I feel like I “had” to get a useful degree). I like to think that I am a creative and funny person.

I am looking for good advice, because I do not know where else to turn. I appreciate any helpful answers, especially if you understand my situation.

Polk School Official Key To Career Academies
By ERIC PERA THE LEDGER LAKELAND | To some, it seemed like the $8 million just fell from the sky. Millionaire and World War II bomber pilot James Ray of Naples made news in recent weeks for bankrolling a new building to house the Polk County School District’s aerospace academy, among the more popular of the district’s 30 academies.
