Deer hunting without dogs?
We just bought some property and I’d like to deer hunt on it.
Looks like bow season will be great – plenty of deer.
BUT during gun season a lot of the locals hunt with hounds. I don’t.
I hear that they tend to drive off deer or make them go nocturnal.
Any chance I’ll bag anything during gun season?
If so, what techniques can I use to be successful when surrounded by hound hunters?
What do you wear when field dressing deer?
I know that’s a weird question, but that is something the “10 step” websites don’t tell you. This is my first time hunting big game, so… after I field dress it, am I just throwing the clothes away? I assume I am going to be covered, at least my pants and arms.
Any extra pointers would be cool.

I am 13 and goign hunting up in Main for 10 days next november with myy uncle and cousin. i do not have a gun but i am planing on going hunting often and am going to need a gun. I know i am going to get a 12 gauge (do not comment sayign its too big for me…im 135 pnds i can handle it and ive been to the range a bunch and shot 200+ 12 gauge rounds at clay pigeons) so i want to know…what would b a nice gun for around 400$ that if possible looks kinda cool that is blacked out (idk maby all guns can b like that if i get that custom ordered) i want a pump action gun b.t.w i was looking at the mossberg 500 or a remmington but idk…anyway ill be hunting dear and pheasant postly maby a lil turkey so if a gun is good foor all around stuff that would be awsome (btw i do not use slug if that matters)
i use buck shot…which will kill a dear thats what my cuz used to kill a 9 point buck and a 7 point buck and my uncle uses it every time he goes and kills a buck every time with buckshot
when is the best time to go scouting before deer season?
i hunt at a family farm about 3 hours from my home, so i cant get down there on a regular basis but if i had a general time slot, that would make life a lot easier. in illinois, our bow season starts october 1st and the first firearm season is november 20-22 and december 3-6.
in general How far away can a bow with a 52lb draw hit a whitetail deer be still be lethal?
Today I took a stupid amature shot at nice buck from around 50 yards and barely missed him I don’t know why I even took the shot I wasn’t thinking. I was on my way back home when I came across him when he was bedded down in a field and he saw me and stood up with his chest facing me. I didn’t think through and didn’t wait for a better shot and missed him by a foot or two buck fever got the best of me. So my question is if I did hit him would it have killed him, the last thing I want to do is injure an animal and have it suffer. This is my first year BOW hunting and my first year hunting alone so I’m still learning. Sorry this is so long.
I have a Diamond Razor Edge with fixed Spitfire broadheads. I understand Alot has to do with shot placement too. I would just like to know in general how far?
Deer Hunters When should you harvest your does for the season?
Kind of new to Deer Hunting I was sitting in the blind over the weekend and had about 5 does come out that I could of taken but i passed up on them. I was wondering when most people shoot there does for the season. Also Is it better to shoot the older more mature doe or the younger does?
Eating raw deer that i hunted myself? Dangerous or safe?
Would it be okay if i were to eat the deer i hunt this season raw? There’s many benefits to eating raw meat, cooking it kills almost all of the protein, minerals, and vitamins in meat. Sicknesses tend to happen when eating raw meat thanks to the uncleanliness of meat factory workers who get bacteria onto the meat.
But if i hunt the deer myself and field dress it and care for it properly without contaminating the meat, i should be safe if i decide to eat some of it raw right? Has anyone ever eaten their game raw?
In Illinois, can a game warden issue a “hunting without a deer permit” for shooting during deer season?
I was sighting in my Muzzleloader on a friends property in Illinois and it was one of the days of the second deer season. A conservation police officer(game warden) didnt actually see me sighting in the gun but he did catch me walking back to my truck with the gun. He gave me a ticket for hunting white-tail deer without a permit. I wasnt even hunting. He basically made me a “poacher” when I’m innocent. Can they do that???? He seized my gun and now I will have to pay a huge fine to get my gun back.

I heard about 5 gun shots when I went outside to walk the dog. I am assuming hunting season starts today. Somebody has one of those tree stands in the woods not far back behind our property line. Would this be a good way for me to make some money?
