My “Ideal” USMC Career?
Question by : My “Ideal” USMC Career?
I would love to enlist with the UZ Recon contract and become a 0321 Recon Man after Boot Camp and SOI. I would then like to apply for MARSOC. I would be very content with that, but I would also like to try and get selected into Scout/Sniper School.
Now lets say I excel in everything physical and get expert marksmanship, what do you think my chances of getting into MARSOC and/or Sniper School?
I’m asking because not much is guaranteed in the Marine Corps and I would just like to know the chances from a “numbers game” standpoint.
Thanks in advance.
P.S.
Please don’t tell me about how hard the training is or anything like that, if I wanted to know that I would have asked.

The chances will have increased, because both of those positions require much stamina and durability.

training a puppy to fit the ideal dog persona?
I got a 10 week old puppy three days ago. Mind you that I have trained JRT’s, German Sheperds, Australians Sheperds, I decided to check out what the new school of dog training advice was out there. I am kind of dissapointed in advice people are dispensing about training dogs. I was wondering if anyone feels the same way? I think the trainers forget that people have different ideals. For instance, training a hunting dog is different from training a hunting breed to live as a family pet. There is this one guy who went on and on about not allowing a puppy/dog to sit on your lap. I have never had a problem with any of my dogs, and they were all allowed to sit/rest-head on my lap. I think he just didn’t want a dog that sat next to him, or maybe he had a bad experience. What one considers misbehaving can be considered appropriate to another person. This goes for how people raise children as well.
I also don’t want my dog to like all people, and have no problem if my dog growls at strangers. I don’t want strangers touching my dogs without me interacting with the person first. There are many trainers who want to take this form of aggression out of dogs. If my dog bites someone who approaches my dog while I have her on a leash after I told them she is not good with strangers, shame on that person. I would teach my child, to not interact with strangers as well. This is what I consider ideal. Maybe some say, “what if my dog escapses”. Well shame on me. I have not had it happen yet over 20 years of owning and training dogs.
How do the rest of you feel? Do you feel like some advice just does not fit in to what you consider an ideal dog?
“Suit bait?” You sound exactly like one of those people who go around touching other people’s pets without permission. It sounds to me like you need training.
I just wanted to clairfy that I don’t have problems training my dogs to do this. However, that was not the whole question I was asking. I was asking if you had your own divergences in opinion with trainers. I was just giving an example of my own.
I am not asking for training advice. I am asking if anyone else is frusterated with people who think want they want is what you want.
Different states have different laws about dog bites. Some states, people bitten by dogs have more rights, whereas, places like Nebraska don’t extend such rights. Basically, my dog could kill you if you tresspassed on my property, and you would not win a lawsuit. However, California affords rights that I think are ridiculous as laws that protect j-walkers.
What is the ideal type of telescope for comet and asteroid hunting/observations? What size would it need to be?
I was considering a Dobsonian, I live in Southern California and have very little light at night to impede my stargazing. I am looking to observe manually and learn the sky, with the option of possibly upgrading the scope. I have a fascination with asteroids and comets especially. How large of a scope would be appropriate?
What is your ideal partner? ?
I am a guy, for me she can’t be a high maintenance barbie doll.
I like a beautiful woman, who enjoys hunting, shooting, tools, camping, snowboarding, fishing etc. Stuff guys would enjoy, but womanly activities as well.
Has to be strong willed, stubborn, wise and opinionated, and almost my height.
How about you all?
Choosing the ideal hunting bow
Should you be planning on getting a compound bow, you’ll find that there are many different options available. With all the choices, picking out the perfect bow becomes quite a task. So, how do you figure out which compound bow is going to be correct for you? Here’s your comprehensive compound bow buying guide to make your choice simpler and to help you ensure you purchase the correct one the first time.
The modern compound bow has changed to make the use of the weapon simpler for the hunter. Engineering has advanced over the past few decades to make bows as functional as ergonomic as possible. They are simpler to carry into the woods, and in many cases lighter than many rifles used today. Bow hunting brings back some of thrill that is lost after years of rifle hunting. A hunter must use skills that may not be necessary for hunting with rifle. You must be closer to your prey and probably use some of those stalking skills that you appreciate. It gives some of the advantage back to the animal.
If you have ever shot a heavy recurve or longbow, you have usually noticed that you’re holding back the maximum Draw-weight just when you come to full draw, so you must aim and release the arrow quickly before you run out of steam or begin to shake. The first compound bow was manufactured to eliminate this problem, giving the shooter more time to aim and release the arrow. In contrast with the old-style bow, the Draw-weight of the compound bow decreases just as you come to full-draw. This is appreciaten as let-off, which is controlled by the geometry of the cam system. There is some thought that a bow may have too much let-off, making the bow feel sloppy at full draw. Maintaining some level of resistance at full draw is perhaps necessary to keep things in good natural alignment. However, the average archer will find the mid to high let-off bow to be more comfortable to shoot. Advanced archers and back-tension shooters usually prefer a little less let-off.
